As the excitement about camp approaches, so do the first-timer jitters for both parents and campers. We recognize that for many, Camp Grace Weekend is the first time campers are staying overnight without Mom or Dad. We are also recognize that for many parents, this is the first time sending their camper away for a weekend without them. We thought we could ease some of these worries by letting you hear from some previous first-timers.
Leslie Baxley’s daughter Emily experienced Camp Grace Weekend for the first time last summer. According to Emily, camp was “too much fun to describe”. When asked what she is looking forward to this year she said, “going on the bungee swing, exploring more nature at Look Up Lodge and sharing top bunks with friends”.
Leslie shared her experience as a parent sending her child to camp as well. ” Emily had such a great time, it was all she could talk about for weeks… She really did love it and it was her first time away from home and family. Little bit of a nail bitter for me [but] your presentation about the events brought peace and some understanding of what was going to take place. ”
Leslie also noted that Emily had to write about her favorite summer activity for a school assignment. Emily chose to write about Camp Grace Weekend and wrote over two pages about it! She says that Emily “still chuckles about Melinda getting asked where her third person was as if she was a camper.”
