God created us to be in relationship with Him. God is HOLY and cannot be around sin, so when we miss the mark, we are separated from Him. Our sin is like a big brick wall that keeps us apart from God and from the blessings He has for us.

As Romans 6:23 tells us, “the wages of sin is death.” In other words, the price for our sin should be death, but since God loves us and wants to be with us (that is, after all, why He created us to begin with!), He sent His son Jesus to live a perfect life, die in our place, and then defeat death by rising from the grave!

When Jesus died on the cross, that big brick wall was broken down between us and God. When we put our faith in Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we are accepting the “free gift of God” which “is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23) and can live forever in relationship with the King of Kings and Lord of Lords…just as He planned.

This week, talk to your Tree House child about what he/she has learned in class the past few weeks. Then talk to him/her about sin and our need for a Savior.

Here are some questions you may want to ask to spur the conversation:
…Do you know anyone who is perfect? (No, only Jesus/God is perfect.)
…What is it called when we disobey God? (Sin.)
…What happens when we sin? (We’re separated from God.)
…What did God do to save us from our sins? (He sent Jesus to live a perfect life and die for us.)
…Did Jesus stay dead (or in the tomb)? (No! He rose from the dead and went to Heaven!)

We recognize that this is heavy-duty subject matter, and that the above questions may not make sense to children at every age or in every stage, but we encourage you to think through these things and consider how you can share the Gospel with your little one at whatever stage he/she is in. If you have any questions and/or would like suggestions for resources, please do not hesitate to reach out to your campus Grace Church Kids staff for guidance and help!
